conversation drifts through my memory
you and I-
reminding each other not to overanalyze-
you telling me-
opinion never matters
and I am no one's but my own.
I may have laughed,
but I believe you.
today I see myself,
a slave, a stranger
in an unkind world-
no one speaks my language,
no one remembers my name-
I'm not laughing now.
I never would have thought-
the only opinion that matters,
is the one you will no longer give.
and forgive me for
this painful affectation-
I have lost my right to be...
and you as well, my only friend-
I no longer warrant your attention
You won't waste another breath-
And soon-
this feeling that I'm falling
will fade, with you
into my shattered memory.
