27 Reasons to Quit Smiling

I came here for my own good,
I stayed because I didn't know
I'd still be here waiting for someone
to tell me that I am free to go.

I came here for the sake of change
I stayed because he noticed me
now I'm stuck, I can't go back
they've raised the passage fee.

I understand- the sabotage
I understand- the fear
it's obvious that
no one wants to get too near.

everything I touch
turns into gold-
but statues don't hold up
against companionship,
though even love gets old
sometimes.

I came here for the passion,
lost, confused, and scared
but he got good at pretending
that he never really cared.

I remember...
my curse is that
I never forget-
my mistake is that
I haven't spoken yet.

I came here for the distance
I stayed here for the night,
I came here for the solitude-
but stayed to watch the fight.
