27 Reasons to Quit Smiling

I cannot feel the burn
as my fingers tear and bleed
all over the notes of your song-

this melody fades in and out
and I am left
faltering for chords
to match the glory of your sound.

I cannot sense my vision fade
as I tear my eyes
from yours
and fall faster towards my feet

and I am quickly losing
the ability to stand
my ground
before your light.

and I run the rest of the way home
just to avoid the chance
that I may see you seven steps behind.

I love the way
You miss the point again
and I dream of the garden-

I dream of all the lives we could have lived-

and wonder why our lonely spirits
chose this world,
of all places to meet again

and fear becoming whole.
