| The Heart Will Die As Well |
My gas tank
is on the left side of the car...
and everyone else finds
theirs on the right.
I am forever cornered
when I go against the flow.
I stand face to face
with an SUV the size
of a small elephant.
And as I inhale the
scent of industry,
I wish that I could
remember firsthand
the days when all the
elephants were free.
The world has changed
more drastically than even I
had imagined it could,
though ten thousand lifetimes
worth of studying these flaws
has not yet made them go away.
And I will not find home
on this soft ground,
my roots are made of stone
and I would sink beneath the sand
with all the other fallen gods
if I stood still for long
enough to learn your name.
Forgive me that I ran away
when you became to real.
I prefer to keep
a thick gray line between
who I am and who I've been...
But know that I would wait
for you forever, if I knew
that where I rested,
you would find me.
