27 Reasons to Quit Smiling

You spit your words of fire...
you throw your mic. at me at a show...
you spread your wings...
people stare...

I forget everything
but our eyes meeting.

you jump around
and scream
and every word
coming out of your mouth
is another word of longing...

another poetic plea
for something more
anything more...

I have words for you my friend...
fire of my own,
I'd like to give to you-
not screamed in sensless agony...
but with a softness
I don't think that you have ever known...
and I could never predict
that you would know how to react
even if you had the retort to offer.

spaces to fill the wholeness...
I see you without emptiness,
I see you without fault...
but there is still something
I am longing to fill
something I have yet to say,
something yet to offer.

Someday,
I will fight my fears
and do the things
that you are looking for...

I will be the me
that you have tried to find...

even if that me isn't who
I'd always dreamed I'd be.
